The Soil

The currrent soil is composed in a large proportion of « Gravetttes »: sharp angular shaped gravels originating from Jurassic limestone (the present cliff) exposed to frost during the ice age .These gravels then deposited in the shape of an alluvial cone. The red clayey siltey soil 80cm to 5meters deep regulates the water real reserves which excel at ripening high quality grapes .As well as for famous vintages the low waters reserves and the great depth of the vine roots permit a slight but steady watering of the plant.

Located on the threshold of the Cevennes Piedmont, the soil enjoys a mediteranean climate solfened by a slightly higher than normal humidity and temperatures varying from high to fresh depending on its exposure to the sun .Thus enabling to grow successfully most grape varieties such as Mourvedre,Syrah,Grenache,Merlot and Cabernet. Thunderstorms bring rainfalls during the dry season from June to September and the rest of the year, we get a fine spray of rain.
